Admission Requirements

Application periods can be found in the Academic Calendar of Sabanci University website. Applicants who submitted their application documents (see below) are invited to a pre-assessment exam which will be held online. The objective of the exam is to assess the applicants’ backgrounds on topics such as elementary Linear Algebra/Calculus, Probability, and introductory Statistics and to evaluate their overall interest in the area of Data Science. Basic concepts considered for the scope of the exam (but not limited to) can be summarized as follows:

Linear Algebra
  • Vector operations
  • System of linear equations
  • Matrix operations

Calculus
  • Partial differentiation and the chain rule
  • Maxima, minima, and constraints

Probability
  • Basic and conditional probability concepts
  • Random variables and probability distribution functions

Statistics
  • Descriptive Statistics
  • Inferential Statistics (point estimates and confidenceintervals, hypothesis tests)

Based on applicants’ credentials in the application documents and their exam performance, suitable candidates are invited to a personal interview. Admissions are finalized by the approval of the related Graduate School Board upon the recommendation of the Jury and are announced to the applicants.

3 Official Transcript An official document issued by the registrar of the candidate's previous Institution showing all courses and grades taken. It should be uploaded under "Documents" in the online application system.
4 Statement of Purpose Document (one or two pages) explaining your objectives and your motivation for pursuing a graduate degree in the field of DA. It should be uploaded under "Documents" in the online application system.
5 Curriculum Vitae (CV) Candidates must submit an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (resume). It should be uploaded under "Documents" in the online application system.
6 Photograph One recently taken photograph must be uploaded to the online application system.
7 Two Letters of Recomendation

The writers of recommendation letters are expected to upload them to the online system. When the application is completed, a link will be emailed to the email addresses indicated in the “Recommenders” section of the online application system for them to upload their recommendation letters.

8 Degree Requirements

An undergraduate degree is required in order to apply for a graduate program. There is no requirement about the undergraduate program type for application. The applicant should have an undergraduate or a graduate diploma in order to be admitted to a graduate program.

Applicants must have completed their previous degree programs by the enrollment date for the Fall Term at Sabancı University.

Candidates must obtain a satisfactory score in the Sabancı University English Language Assessment Examination (SU-ELAE).

*ELAE exam is composed of 3 parts: Grammar, Vocabulary and Writing. The grammar and vocabulary sections make up 50% and the writing section makes up the remaining 50% of the overall grade. The exam is free. When your application has been accepted by the institute, you are automatically registered for this exam. You will be informed of the date, time and location of the exam and its result at a later date by the institute.   

English Proficiency Exam Result

As the instruction language at Sabancı University is English,  any of the above English Proficiency Exam results with a score equal to or above the minimum will be sufficient for application. Scanned copies are acceptable for the application period, but the originals should be submitted during the admission process. 

Test dates must be within:

  • 2 years for TOEFL, PTE
  • 3 years for CAE, CPE 
  • 5 years for e-YDS, YDS, YÖKDİL and e-YÖKDİL

of the candidates's official application date to the degree program.

According to the updated YOK (Turkish Higher Education Council) Legislation;

Equivalency of IELTS and TOEFL-PBT exams is not accepted by YOK (Turkish Higher Education Council) any more; and these exams will not be valid for Graduate Program registrations.

If the international exams, of which equivalency is accepted by YOK and which are accepted for Graduate Program registrations by Sabancı University, are taken in Turkey; these exams have to be taken in a State University building

Applicants who do not submit a valid English Proficiency Exam score (fulfilling all other requirements) can only be admitted to a graduate study on the condition of obtaining a satisfactory score from the Sabancı University English Language Assessment Exam (ELAE) 

Graduates of Sabanci University are exempt from submitting an English Proficiency Exam score provided that they apply within two years following their graduation. Period between graduation date from the previous program and registration date to the new program should be maximum 2 years.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

ALES (Graduate Admission Test for Turkish Universities), GRE or GMAT Score is not required for Non-thesis Master’s Degree programs. 

Your registration will be completed upon the approval of Turkish Higher Education Council regarding the equivalence of the last graduated higher instution and the course of study. 

Application:

Applications should be submitted via online application system only. Applications sent via e-mail cannot be evaluated. We would like to remind you that if you get admitted, originals of all official documents required to be submitted during university registrations.
